MENTAL STRENGTH TRAINING
FOR
COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS

Reaching the top in baseball consists of developing your physical skills with training and practice, and then executing those skills under pressure during competition.

We all know of the necessity to utilize the facilities available to us today for gaining strength and for increasing our flexibility and endurance. Likewise, we know the importance of continuously improving our hitting, pitching and defensive skills through the many camps, clinics, and excellent baseball programs which are also open to us.

However, there is an aspect of the game that is often overlooked. Have you ever felt that you weren’t playing as well as you could? Have you noticed that what you could do in practice you weren’t doing in games? Are you sometimes nervous or uncomfortable? Handling these things are aspects in the development of the mental side of your game.

You see, it’s your body that is trained to play, but it is your mind that either empowers you or prevents you from performing when the game is on the line. The key to realizing your potential resides primarily in your mind. And what is in your mind is up to you.

The difference, then, in reaching the top in baseball can be attributed not only to one’s physical ability, but perhaps more accurately to one’s knowledge of how to manage his focus (thoughts and emotions) during competition. All players will attest to this.

Throughout his baseball career and even to the present day, Dave has found this to be true. He has also found that this knowledge and the ability to apply it to your game is a learned skill. This is great news! It means that anyone who wishes can learn what he needs to do concerning the mental part of his game.

Becoming aware of this, and then acting on it, is what will allow your true physical ability to manifest itself during big moments and important games. Remember this fundamental truth:

"Your way of thinking determines the level of adrenaline at which you play and produces an effect on your nerves, muscle tension, and perceptions. For a hitter this affects his timing, bat speed, and swing plane. For a pitcher this affects his rhythm, arm speed, and release point (control). For a defensive player this affects his footwork, soft hands, and throwing accuracy."

As you can see, you can trace these results to the way you are thinking. And you can adjust the way you are thinking. Remember that baseball is a game of adjustments. And we adjust all the time as we learn new things. You might think of it as acquiring good "mental mechanics."

Dave can help you to learn these things and put them into your game in a smooth, easy way. From his personal experience of playing and successfully making these adjustments, and with his years of coaching experience with both the physical and mental aspects of the game he has the expertise to help you.

Below are descriptions of a couple of different programs by which you may learn these skills.

The All Star Program has eight sessions over a month’s time and provides more accountability for the player in doing his practice routines.

The Major League Program has four sessions over a month’s time and allows the player to do more of the practice routines on his own.

The Programs are designed to help as many players as possible. The curriculums are the same, but are designed to fit players’ individual time frame and financial situation.
